Alvernia Falls to Penn State Harrisburg, 66-57

Reading, Pa (December 30, 2024) - Alvernia University (5-5) dropped its final game of the calendar year to Penn State Harrisburg, 66-57, Monday night in non-conference women's basketball action on Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court. 

Alvernia's Jennah DeGout led the way with an 18 point, ten rebound double-double and Kylie Bradford followed with an 11 point, 12 rebound double-double. 

How it Happened
  • Alvernia jumped out to an early 10-2 lead with a layup from Jennah DeGout, a pair of 3-pointers from Olivia Burke, and a Jordyn Ingelido jumper in the first five minutes of action.
  • A quick five points from Penn State Harrisburg brought the Lions back within three, 10-7, but layups from DeGout and Paige O'Brien pushed Alvernia's lead back to seven, 14-7, with 3:44 to play in the opening quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves and Lions traded points over the next two minutes, and a 3-pointer from Kyla Reed off the bench gave Alvernia a 19-13 lead heading into the second quarter. 
  • Alvernia opened the second quarter with a jumper from DeGout to take a 21-13 lead, but Alvernia would be held without a point for the next nearly five minutes as Penn State took a 24-21 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves got back on track with a pair of made free throws from Kylie Bradford and a jumper from DeGout to retake the lead, 25-24, with 4:35 to play in the half.
  • The Golden Wolves and Lions traded the lead in the final minutes of the half, with Penn State taking a 31-29 lead into the half with a layup to mark the final points of the half.
  • Alvernia tied the score up in the first 20 seconds of the second half thanks to a Bradford jumper to tie the game but the Lions responded with a 7-2 scoring run to extend the lead to five, 38-33 with under seven to go. 
  • The Golden Wolves pulled within three over the next three minutes to make it 43-40 with two minutes to go in the third quarter. Ryleigh Poole knocked down a three and DeGout and Bradford both added buckets for the Golden Wolves. 
  • The Lions ended the quarter on a 4-2 run to take the 47-42 lead into the final quarter. 
  • PSU Harrisburg picked up right where they left off in the first four minutes into the fourth quarter with a 10-4 scoring run and pushed their lead to 11, 57-46. 
  • The Golden Wolves responded with a 5-2 run to cut the lead to right, 59-51 but the Lions ended the game on a 7-6 scoring run to secure the 66-57 victory over the Golden Wolves. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Jennah DeGout led the way for the Golden Wolves with 18 points and ten rebounds. DeGout also added two assists, one steal and one block. 
  • Kylie Bradford recorded a 11 point, 12 rebound double-double and added two assists, two steals and one block. 
  • Ryleigh Poole recorded a team high six assists and added six points.
