Golden Wolves Take Down Roadrunners, 41-12

Sewell, N.J. (December 5, 2024) - Alvernia University took down Rowan College by a score of 41-12 in a non-conference men's wrestling dual Wednesday evening at Rowan College.

How it Happened

Rowan College took the early 6-0 lead after a forfeit victory for Domenic Demarzo in the 125 pound match and then pushed the lead to 12-0 after Joshua Kinchen defeated Anthony Astorino by fall in the final minute of a hard fought 133 pound bout.
The Golden Wolves got on the board after Garrett Gehr took down Stephen Dmytryk by tech fall at 141 pounds to make it 12-5 and then Nolan Brown received a forfeit at 149 pounds to push the match to 12-11.
Both teams forfeited at the 157 pound match and then both Ryan Lepore and William Knapp received forfeits at 165 and 174 pounds to swing the team score in favor of Alvernia, 23-12.
Alvernia's James Moffat then took down Rowan College's Andrew Szwedyk by fall with 39 seconds left in the first period to make it 29-12 Golden Wolves. Moffat's victory was also his first collegiate victory.
Jason Chiodi then also received a forfeit in the 197 pound match to make it 35-12 Golden Wolves before Owen Reber defeated Luciano Mezzeo by fall in the 285 pound match in 5:48 to seal the 41-12 victory for the Golden Wolves.
The Golden Wolves and Roadrunners then wrestled three exhibition matches at 133, 141, and 285 pounds. Anthony Astorino dropped the 133 pound exhibition to Domenic Demarzo by major decision, 16-4 and then Garrett Gehr took down Joaquin Poventud by fall in 1:37 at 141 pounds. Tyler Carter then defeated Luciano Mezzeo in the 285 pound exhibition by decision, 7-2 to round out the exhibition matches.
