Chester, Pa (February 10, 2024) - Alvernia University (15-8, 7-5) fell to #16 Widener University (20-3, 10-2) 95-71, in a MAC Commonwealth men's basketball matchup Saturday afternoon at Widener. 

The Pride led by 19 at the half and never looked back en route to the 24 point victory. 

How it Happened 

• Alvernia and Widener traded buckets back and forth in the first five minutes of the game with the Pride taking a slight, 11-10 advantage. Nigel Cooke and Kyle Gordon both tallied four for the Golden Wolves during the opening stretch. 
• The Pride then responded by going on a 20-12 scoring run in the next ten minutes of the first half to extend the lead to nine, 31-22 with five to play. 
• Widener then ended the first half on a 17-7 run to take a 19 point, 48-29 lead at the break. 
• The Pride extended their lead to 28, 75-47 after the first ten minutes of the second half. 
• The Golden Wolves scored 24 of the final 44 points of the contest but it was not enough as the Pride secured the 95-71 victory. 

Inside the Box Score

• Nigel Cooke and Kyle Gordon both recorded a team high 12 points for Alvernia. Gordon also recorded a game high 16 rebounds and three blocks. 
• Robert Mullan recorded 11 on the day for Alvernia and Jacob Stoudt tallied a season high ten points.

Of Note 

• The loss dropped Alvernia to 15-8 overall and 7-5 in the MAC Commonwealth. 
• The Pride secured the series sweep over the Golden Wolves with the victory.
