Alvernia’s Offense Powers Golden Wolves Past Stockton, 12-4

Galloway, N.J. (February 27, 2024) - Alvernia University (2-1) used an eight run sixth inning to down Stockton University (2-2) 12-4, in a non-conference baseball matchup Tuesday afternoon at Stockton.

The Golden Wolves and the Osprey were knotted at four after five innings of play until Alvernia plated eight runs in the top half of the sixth to grab the 12-4 lead and never looked back to secure the victory.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed an early lead in the top half of the first when Jake Chapman scored thanks to a Stockton wild pitch and Ben Houghton added a sac fly to plate Jack Zabarsky to give Alvernia a 2-0 lead.
  • The Osprey tied the game up in the bottom of the second after a single through the right side by Bresnen scored Kaplan and Fiore to level the game at two.
  • Alvernia quickly responded in the top of the third when Houghton poked a single through the right side to plate Mike Ramundo and make it 3-2 Golden Wolves.
  • Stockton took the lead in its half of the fourth inning after a single down the left field line put two across the plate to grab the 4-3 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves bounced back and tallied a lone run in the top half of the fifth to tie the game after a Stockton error allowed Jason Kelly to score.
  • Alvernia's offense exploded in the sixth and posted an eight spot to take an eight run, 12-4 lead. Ramundo got things started with an RBI single to center, Houghton followed him with a two RBI single through the right side to make it 7-4 Golden Wolves. Garrett Hunter drew a walk with the bases loaded to plate another and Logan Nelson singled up the middle to drive two more runs in, making it a 10-4 ballgame.
  • The Golden Wolves pulled off a successful 1st and 3rd steal that allowed Hunter to score before Matt Edwards singled to score Nelson and tack one more on to cap the eight run inning.
  • Chris Sasso shut down the Osprey in his final inning of work after coming in for Nick Ferraioli in the fifth inning to secure the 12-4 victory for the Golden Wolves.
