Bulldogs Down Golden Wolves, 18-10

Reading, Pa (March 1, 2024) - DeSales University (2-0) used 11 second half goals en route to a 18-10 victory over Alvernia University (2-2) in a non-conference women's lacrosse matchup Friday evening at Alvernia. 

The Bulldogs held a slight, 7-5 advantage over the Golden Wolves at the half. DeSales then held Alvernia to five goals in the second half while the Bulldogs tallied 11 to secure the 18-10 victory. 

How it Happened
  • Alvernia and DeSales traded goals back and forth in the first ten minutes of the first quarter as the Golden Wolves and Bulldogs were knotted at three. Haleigh Lackner and Sherrin Smith netted goals for Alvernia. 
  • Lackner netted her second goal of the game with under five to go in the first quarter to give Alvernia a 4-3 lead after one. Lackner's goal notched her 200th career point. 
  • The Bulldogs found an equalizer with under nine minutes to go in the second quarter but Meagan Moky responded with her first goal of the night just 30 seconds later to regain the 5-4 lead. 
  • DeSales responded by ripping off three straight goals to end the half and take a two goal, 7-5 lead at the half. 
  • The Bulldogs came out of the half and picked up where they left off and scored three more goals in the first three minutes of the third quarter to take a 10-5 lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves cut the lead to three, 10-7 thanks to back to back goals by Moky. Olivia McCambly recorded an assist on the second of the two goals. 
  • DeSales ended the third quarter with two goals in the final two minutes to make it a 12-7 game through three. 
  • Lackner netted her third of the game early in the fourth quarter to make it 12-8 but the Bulldogs responded with four goals in five minutes to take a commanding, 16-8 lead with under seven to play. 
  • McCambly and Moky both tallied unassisted goals in the final six minutes for the Golden Wolves but two more from DeSales, including one with one second remaining saw the Bulldogs secure the 18-10 victory. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Megan Moky led the Golden Wolves with four goals and added an assist for five points. Moky also recorded two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. 
  • Haleigh Lackner scored three for Alvernia and added a team high seven draw controls. Lackner went 6-7 on shots on goal and caused one turnover. 
  • Olivia McCambly and Sherrin Smith rounded out the Alvernia goal scorers and McCambly recorded an assist as well. 
  • Hannah Wolfe recorded six saves in net for Alvernia. 

Of Note 
  • Senior Haleigh Lackner tallied her 200th career point with her second goal of the game. Lackner became the sixth Alvernia Women's Lacrosse player to eclipse 200 career points and joined Sarah George, Allison Bainbridge, Felicia Sippel, Alyssa Verrillo and Erika Whitmoyer as a member of the 200 point club.

  • The Golden Wolves are back in action on Monday when they travel to Susquehanna to take on the RiverHawks at 6:00 PM. The game is a reschedule that was originally to be played on February 17th.
