How it Happened
- After a hitless first inning, Alvernia got on the board in the top of the second. Jason Kelly led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a Matt Edwards walk. A Scott Anderson sacrifice bunt advanced Kelly and Edwards another base, and Kelly came around to score on a groundout by Bobby Hansen. Edwards then scored on a single by Garrett Hunter to center field as Alvernai took the 2-0 lead.
- Alvernia made it a 3-0 game on a Kelly single to center to score Mike Ramundo, who reached earlier in the inning on a double down the left field line.
- Messiah got one back in its half of the third on an error by Alvernia.
- Alvernia retook the three-run lead in the top off the fifth. Logan Nelson led off the inning with a double down the left field line and came around to score on a Jake Chapman groundout.
- The Golden Wolves added what would become crucial insurance runs in the top of the eighth. Quncy Esannason reached on a single to lead off the inning and Chapman joined him on base after getting hit by a pitch. With two outs later in the inning, an Edwards single to left gap scored Esannason and Chapman to give Alvernia the 6-1 lead.
- Messiah got one back on an Alvernia wild pitch in the bottom of the eight, but the Golden Wolves took the 6-2 lead into the ninth.
- Alvernia got a baserunner in Nelson with two outs after he was walked, but he was then caught stealing to end the top of the ninth.
- Messiah put a runner in scoring position with a double to left center and then quickly cut Alvernia's lead down to two, 6-4, on a two-run homer by Evan Wagaman. Later in the inning, Messiah had two more runners on and the game-winning run at the plate. But, Brad Coley struck out Jarrett Gordon to end the Messiah threat and secure the 6-4 win for Alvernia as the Golden Wolves avoided the sweep.
