How it Happened

The next two batters then hit home runs for NJCU as the Gothic Knights took a 3-0 lead before Alvernia recorded an out. NCJU added two more runs on a two-run triple and made it a 6-0 game on a throwing error.
  • The Gothic Knights added four runs in the top of the third, scoring on an Alvernia error, wild pitch, and back-to-back singles to take a 10-0.
  • Alvernia got four back in its half of the fourth. Matt Edwards hit a two-run homer to center field to score Jason Kelly, who reached earlier in the inning on a single. Later in the inning Logan Nelson homered to left center to score Jason Lind, who reached on an infield single, and bring Alvernia back within six, 10-4.
  • Nelson came through big again in the sixth inning, hitting a two-run homer to left field to score Noah Waldron and bring Alvernia within four, 10-6.
  • NJCU retook a six run lead, 12-6, in the seventh inning, scoring runs off of a double to the left gap and a single to center field.
  • NJCU added one more insurance run in the top half of the eighth after an RBI double to left center made it a 13-6 game.
  • Alvernia recorded three runs in the home half of the eighth after Nelson scored on a wild pitch and Kelly drove in two runs with a double to left field to make it 13-9 but it was not enough as NJCU secured the victory.
