Golden Wolves Blow Past Monarchs, 18-1

Reading, Pa. (March 16, 2024)  - Alvernia University (3-5) scored early and often en route to an 18-1 win over King's College (1-6) on Saturday in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and led 14-0 at the half. Alvernia added four more goals in the second half to take the 18-1 win over the Monarchs.

How it Happened
 
  • Alvernia got things rolling early and never looked back against the Monarchs. Alvernia won the opening draw control and Meagan Moky took it straight to goal for the Golden Wolves to give Alvernia the early 1-0 lead.
  • Sherrin Smith and Olivia McCambly then each scored within a minute of each other to give Alvernia the 3-0 lead through just over three minutes of action.
  • A few minutes later, Smith grabbed a ground ball off a caused turnover by Haleigh Lackner and took it to goal to give Alvernia the 4-0 lead.
  • Another pair of quick goals – this time from McCambly and Hailey Miller – gave Alvernia the 6-0 lead with six minutes to play in the first quarter.
  • Back-to-back goals in under 15 seconds from Mackenzie McKinney gave Alvernia the 8-0 lead going into the second frame.
  • Alvernia opened up the second quarter with two goals in 34 seconds to take a 10-0 elad and start the running clock early. McKinney scored her third goal in under a minute of game play for the first goal of the quarter and McCambly scored her third of the day for the second goal of the quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves made it an 11-0 game with another goal from Hailey Miler and led by 13, 13-0, as the quarter hit its midpoint with goals from McCambly and Moky. McCambly then scored the final goal of the first half to give Alvernia the 14-0 lead as McCambly netted her fifth of the game.
  • Haleigh Lackner opened the third quarter scored to make it a 15-0 game before the Monarchs got their first and only goal with just under ten minutes to play in the third quarter.
  • Lackner bookended the quarter for Alvernia with a goal with 2:13 to play in the third frame to give Alvernia the 16-1 lead.
  • Alvernia added two more in the fourth quarter with goals from Moky and Gracie Brower as the Golden Wolves came away with the dominant 18-1 win.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Olivia McCambly led Alvernia with six points off of five goals and an assist. Haleigh Lackner and Meagan Moky each finished with five points – Moky with three goals and two assists, and Lackner with two goals and three assists.
  • Lackner had a team-high five caused turnovers and five draw controls.
  • Lackner and Moky each had a team-high four ground balls.
  • Hannah Wolfe made two saves in net for the win.
 
Of Note
  • Alvernia out-shot the Monarchs, 37-7 overall and Alvernia was nearly perfect on the clear, going 13-for-14.
  • Olivia McCambly matched her career-high of five goals and career-high of six points. 
  • Alvernia's 17 goal margin of victory is its largest margin of victory since a 22-1 win over PSU Abington in 2019.
