Golden Wolves Roll by Griffins, 18-5

Reading, Pa (March 20, 2024) - Alvernia University (4-5) netted 13 goals in the first half en route to an 18-5 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University (0-7) in a non-conference women's lacrosse matchup Wednesday night at Alvernia. 

How it Happened 
  • Alvernia jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first five minutes of the first quarter thanks to a Sophia Ruocco unassisted goal and McKenzie McKinney tallied two goals as well. 
  • The Golden Wolves then ripped off two goals in 26 seconds after Meagan Moky and Haleigh Lackner netted goals to make it a 5-0 game. 
  • Alvernia scored three more goals at the end of the first quarter to take an 8-0 lead after the first 15 minutes. Olivia McCambly, Moky and Lackner all tallied unassisted goals. 
  • Sherrin Smith netted an unassisted goal in the first minute of the second quarter to make it 9-0 Golden Wolves. 
  • Gwynedd Mercy got on the board in the first two minutes of the second quarter when Kristin Varilla found the back of the net. 
  • Alvernia then responded with four straight goals in the final 11 minutes of the half to take a 12 goal, 13-1 lead at the break. 
  • The Griffins and the Golden Wolves both scored two goals apiece in the third quarter. Lackner and Moky both netted unassisted goals in the third quarter as the Golden Wolves went into the final quarter with a 15-3 lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves netted their final three goals in the first ten minutes of the fourth quarter to make it a 18-3 game. McKinney tallied two goals with assists from Ruocco and McCambly and Moky added an unassisted goal as well. 
  • The Griffins scored two goals in the final five minutes but Alvernia secured the 13 goal, 18-5 victory.
