Knights Drop Golden Wolves, 8-4

Aston, Pa (March 27, 2024) - Neumann University (6-4) scored three fourth quarter goals en route to an 8-4 victory over Alvernia University (3-5) in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup Wednesday at Neumann. 

Neumann held the Golden Wolves scoreless in the first half and took a 5-0 lead after the first half. The Golden Wolves ripped off three goals in the third quarter to cut the lead to two, 5-3 but the Knights scored three goals in the fourth quarter to secure the 8-4 victory. 

How it Happened 
  • The Knights took the early lead with a goal in the first 20 seconds of the contest to make it a 1-0 game. 
  • Neumann then tallied a second goal in the final four minutes of the first quarter when Renzo Garone scored an unassisted goal to give the Knights a 2-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. 
  • Neumann scored all three goals of the second quarter in the final ten minutes of the half to take a 5-0 lead into the halftime break. 
  • With the Knights holding the Golden Wolves scoreless in the first half it marked the first time all season that Alvernia failed to score a goal in the first 30 minutes. 
  • The Golden Wolves came out of the halftime break firing and netted three goals in the third stanza to cut the deficit to two, 5-3. Kyle Patton got things going with an unassisted goal at the ten minute mark to get Alvernia on the board 
  • With just under seven to go in the quarter Ian Graiff connected with Ethan McManus to make it a 5-2 game. Patton scored his second goal of the quarter with four minutes to go thanks to an assist from Kyle Moats and gave the Golden Wolves new life heading into the final quarter of play. 
  • Alvernia came within one after three minutes of the fourth quarter when Patton tallied his third point of the game after assisting Colin McFadyen to make it a 5-4 game with 11:45 to play in the contest. 
  • The Knights responded with two goals in as many minutes to push the lead back to three, 7-4. 
  • Neumann tallied one more insurance goal with one minute to play in the game to seal the 8-4 victory over the Golden Wolves. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Kyle Patton led the way with three points off two goals and an assist. Patton also tallied three shots on goal, three ground balls and a caused turnover. 
  • Colin McFadyen and Ethan McManus both netted the other two goals for Alvernia and Ian Graiff and Kyle Moats both recorded assists. 
  • Christian Wright caused a team high two turnovers and picked up four ground balls. 
  • Jack Kenney went 7-16 on faceoffs and picked up five ground balls. This is just the second game that Kenney has recorded less than ten faceoff wins. 
  • Dane Sabarese recorded 11 saves in net for the Golden Wolves. 

Up Next 
  • The Golden Wolves are back in action next Wednesday when they host Rosemont in a non-conference matchup at 4:00 PM. The Rosemont game is a rescheduled game from earlier this month.
