Golden Wolves Blow By Ravens, 19-3

Reading, Pa (April 3, 2024) - Alvernia University (4-5) used an eight goal third quarter to power past Rosemont College (1-7) 19-3, in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup Wednesday afternoon at Alvernia. 

Rosemont jumped out to the early 1-0 lead but the Golden Wolves scored six straight to take a 6-1 lead at the half. Alvernia then outscored the Ravens 8-1 in the third and 5-1 in the fourth en route to the 16 goal, 19-3 victory. 

How it Happened
  • Rosemont got on the board first with a goal by Jayden Hogg to grab a 1-0 lead after the first three minutes of the game. 
  • The Golden Wolves then responded with three goals in the final seven minutes of the quarter to take a 3-1 lead after one. Kyle Moats connected with Rylan Gilman to level the score at one and then Ethan McManus and Kyle Patton both netted unassisted goals to make it a 3-1 game. 
  • Colin McFadyen started the second quarter out with two goals in the first 2:22 of the quarter to extend the Alvernia lead to 5-1. Patton assisted McFadyen on his first goal and Kenny Howley assisted the second. 
  • Gilman notched his second goal of the game in the final four minutes of the half thanks to an assist from McManus as the Golden Wolves took a five goal, 6-1 lead into the break. 
  • Howley, Patton and McManus all scored goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter to push the lead to eight, 9-1. 
  • Patton then scored another just under the nine minute mark to make it 10-1 Golden Wolves. 
  • The Ravens finally put a stop to the Alvernia scoring run after ten straight goals when Greg Weaver found the back of the net with just under six to go in the third to make it a 10-2 game. 
  • The Golden Wolves picked up right where they left off and netted four straight to end the third quarter and take a 14-2 lead into the fourth. Moats tallied unassisted in as many minutes to make it 12-2, Patton assisted McFadyen yet again and Howley connected with McManus with 13 seconds left in the third to make it a 12 goal game. 
  • Alvernia tacked on two more in the first four minutes of the final quarter when McFadyen tallied his fourth and Peter Capasso also found the back of the net to make it 14-2. 
  • The Golden Wolves then scored three more goals in three minutes after goals from Gilman, Christian Wright and Zach Kries netted his first goal of the season to make it a 19-2 game. 
  • The Ravens tallied one final goal in the final four minutes to make it 19-3. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Kyle Patton and Ryan Gilman led the way offensively for the Golden Wolves with five points a piece and each had three goals and two assists. 
  • Colin McFadyen led the way scoring for the Golden Wolves with four goals, Ethan McManus netted three goals and added an assist and Kyle Moats scored twice and added an assist as well. 
  • Kenny Howley had a game high three assists and added a goal to go with it and Christian Wright, Zach Kries and Peter Capasso all scored goals as well for Alvernia. 
  • Dane Sabarese got the win in net for Alvernia and recorded five saves. 
  • Jack Kenney won a career high 20 faceoffs for the Golden Wolves, and picked up a career high 14 ground balls as well. Kenny's 14 ground balls are also the most in a game since Brandon Weaver picked up 16 against Bryn Athyn in 2014. 

Of Note 
  • Alvernia's 16 goal margin of victory is the most since the Golden Wolves beat Medaille College 28-3 back in the 2019 season.
