Fort Myers, FL (March 6, 2024) - Alvernia University (5-4) fell to #3 Baldwin Wallace University (5-2) 4-1, in a non-conference baseball matchup Wednesday morning in Fort Myers. 

The Yellow Jackets took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and then tacked on one more in the fourth to hold a 3-0 lead through four innings. Matt Edwards grabbed one back for the Golden Wolves with a solo homer in the seventh but Baldwin Wallace responded with a run in the bottom half to secure teh 4-1 victory. 

How it Happened 

• The Yellow Jackets put up one run in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two RBI double into the left center gap to grab the 2-0 lead early. 
• Baldwin Wallace posted another run in the home half of the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly to right field plated a run to make it a 3-0 ballgame after four. 
• Both teams were scoreless in the next two innings before Matt Edwards belted a solo shot to left to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to two, 3-1. 
• Baldwin Wallace bounced back imminently in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to center to push the lead to 4-1. 
• Tyler Walker came on in relief for the Yellow Jackets and closed the game out to secure the 4-1 victory and earned the save. 

Inside the Box Score 

• Edwards led the Golden Wolves offensively with two hits, including a homerun. 
• Jason Kelly, Jake Chapman and Ben Houghton were the only other Golden Wolves to record a hit. 
• Grant Fitzgerald started on the hill for Alvernia, he went 4.1 innings and struck out six. 
• Evan Thomas went 2.2 innings in relief and Brendan Thomas went 1.0 innings to close the game out on the mound for Alvernia. Both recorded one strikeout a piece.
