Fort Myers, FL (March 7, 2024) - Alvernia University (6-4) first-year Timmy Hitchcock's leadoff double in the top of the eighth sparked a two run inning for the Golden Wolves in an 8-7 victory over Muskingum University (4-3) Thursday afternoon in Fort Myers. 

Alvernia grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second but the Muskies posted a five spot in their half of the second to take a 5-2 lead. The Golden Wolves then held the Muskies to just two runs in the final seven innings and tallied six of their own en route to the 8-7 come from behind victory. 

How it Happened 

• Jason Lind got things going for the Golden Wolves in the top half of the second inning when poked a single to right field that scored Ben Houghton to make it 1-0. 
• Lind and Timmy Hitchcock then executed a successful first and third steal play that allowed Hitchcock to score to give Alvernia an early 2-0 lead. 
• The Muskies bounced back with five runs in the home half of the second inning after a two RBI single, a run scored on an error and a bases loaded walk and hit by pitch both forced runs in as Muskingum swung the lead in its favor, 5-2. 
• The Golden Wolves grabbed one back in the third when Mike Ramundo laced a double into left field that scored Jake Chapman to make it 5-3. 
• Lind tallied his second RBI of the day when he grounded out to second but it was enough to score Matt Edwards and pull Alvernia within one, 5-4 after four innings of play. 
• Alvernia took the lead in the top of the fifth when they tallied two runs thanks to an RBI groundout by Edwards and Quincy Esannason scored thanks to a Musky error to make it a 6-5 ballgame. 
• Muskingum responded in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI groundout of its own to tie the game at six. 
• The Muskies regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an RBI single through the right side to make it a 7-6 ballgame but the Golden Wolves responded immediately with an RBI single by Logan Nelson to knot it back up at seven. 
• Nelson then stole second and advanced to third via a Muskingum balk before Chapman singled through the right side to plate Nelson and give Alvernia the 8-7 lead. 
• Matt Mays and Brad Coley came in to close out the Muskies in the final two innings and shut Muskingum down to secure the 8-7 victory. 

Inside the Box Score 

• Jason Lind led the Golden Wolves with two RBIs while five other Golden Wolves recorded an RBI. 
• Mike Ramundo, Matt Edwards, Logan Nelson and Jake Chapman all recorded two hits for Alvernia and Timmy Hitchcock scored two runs.
• Josh Kreider started on the mound for the Golden Wolves but Michael Andrew came on early in relief and tossed 4.2 innings, allowed just three hits and one run and fanned three batters. 
• Matt Mays came on in the seventh and threw 1.2 scoreless with two K's before Brad Coley came in and tossed a scoreless bottom of the ninth to shut the Muskies down, secure the win for Mays and pick up his second save of the season.
