Mohnton, Pa. (April 1, 2024) - Through the first day of competition at the two-day Alvernia Invitational at LedgeRock Golf Club, Alvernia Men's Golf sits in fourth overall and Alvernia's Shawn Williasms sits in a tie for second.

Returning to the course for the first time this season, Alvernia and the field of ten teams faced wet and cold conditions at LedgeRock. Through the first 18 holes, St. Lawrence sits atop the leaderboard with a team score of 311. Alvernia is in fourth, just three strokes back with a 314.

Alvernia's Shawn Williams is in a tie for second with St. Lawrence's Jimmy King at 1-over 73. Albright's Ben Egin is in first with a 1-under 71.

Shawn Williams started his day with a bogey on the par four 1st hole. He then posted three pars and three bogeys over the next six holes before posting an eagle on the par five eighth. Williams was on the green in two before sinking the eagle putt. He closed out the front nine with a par on the par four ninth. Williams gave one stroke back on the sharp downhill par three 10th hole before finding his rhythm on the back nine. Williams birdied the par four 11th and then had back-to-back pars on the short par four 12th and 554 yard par five 13th. Williams then birdied the 14th, pared the 15th and nearly drove the green on 16 to post another birdie. After a bogey on the notably difficult par four 17th, Williams closed out his round with a par on the 600 yard par five 18th for his round of 1-over 73. 

Jack Lynam was second for Alvernia and is in a tie for sixth overall. Lynam was four-over through five holes before closing out the front nine with four straight pars to make the turn at 4-over. Lynam pared the par three 10th before giving back another stroke on the 11th. After pars on the 12th and 13th holes, Lynam picked up a stroke with a birdie on the par three 14th. But, he gave it right back with a bogey on the 15th. Lynam then posted pars on his final three holes to close out his round with a 5-over 77.

Andrew Bauer finished third for Alvernia and is in a tie for 24th overall. Bauer's round was highlighted by birdies on the par four 6th, par five 8th, and par five 13th. Bauer also finished his round with six pars en route to his round of 8-over 88.

Jackson Hoovler finished out Alvernia's counting scores and is in a tie for 39th overall with a round of 12-over 84. Hoovler's round was highlighted by a birdie on the par four 6th. He also had seven pars total on his day, including five on the back nine.

Matthew Gagliardi played as Alvernia's fifth and is in 41st overall. Gagliardi finished with a birdie on the par four 6th and nine pars for his round of 85. 

Matt Davies played as an individual for Alvernia and is in 53rd overall. Davies finished with three pars and a birdie on the par three 3rd.

Alvernia is back at LedgeRock on Tuesday for the final day of the Alvernia Invitational.
