Alvernia Falls to #17 York College, 20-6

York, Pa. (April 10, 2024) - #17 York College (6-6, 2-0) used a seven goal second quarter to down Alvernia Women's Lacrosse (4-8, 0-2) 20-6 on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse action at York.

Alvernia trailed by just one goal, 4-3, with 2:32 to play in the first quarter. But, York scored nine straight - including seven in the second quarter - to close out the half and take a 13-3 lead into the break. Alvernia scored another three goals in the second half, but York came away with the 20-6 win. 

How it Happened
  • The Spartans jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first 3:44 of action in the first quarter.
  • A goal from Olivia McCambly off the assist of Sophia Ruocco got Alvernia on the board with 5:25 to play in the first quarter, and sparked a string of three straight goals for Alvernia over the next three minutes to make it a 4-3 game with 2:32 to play in the first quarter. Meagan Moky and Sherrin Smith also netted goals for Alvernia during the quick 3-0 run for the Golden Wolves.
  • York responded with a man-up goal with 1:38 to play in the first. That goal ignited a 9-0 run for the Spartans to close out the first half as York took a 13-3 lead into the half.
  • The Spartans scored the opening two goals of the second half to extend their lead to 12, 15-3.
  • Smith's second goal of the day put an end to York's run with 9:20 to play in the third. But, Alvernia never got closer than ten goals. York added five more goals in the final 23 minutes of the game and held Alvernia to just two more goals - one from Haleigh Lackner and a man-up from Moky - as the Spartants came away with the 20-6 win.

  • Smith and Moky led Alvernia with two goals each, and Lackner and McCambly each had one.
  • Lackner and Moky also led Alvernia with three draw controls each.
  • Hannah Wolfe finished the night with eight saves in net, and also picked up two ground balls.
