Williams, Hoovler Lead Golden Wolves at MAC Preview

Fleetwood, Pa (April 14, 2024) - Shawn Williams and Jackson Hoovler led Alvernia University to a third place finish at the MAC Preview at Golden Oaks Golf Club Sunday afternoon.

Williams fired a two over, 74 while Hoovler carded a 75. Andrew Bauer posted the third best score with a 76 and Matthew Gagliardi rounded out the counting scores with an 80. The Golden Wolves finished in third place with a total of 305. Alvernia finished behind York College, who took first, by nine strokes and three strokes behind Elizabethtown, who took second.

Williams started his day with a bogey at the first but bounced back with six straight pars and a birdie on eight to get back to even par. A bogey at the par three ninth saw Williams card a one over, 37 heading into the back nine. Williams jumped back on the par train and rattled off eight pars in a row but a bogey at the par five 18th put Williams at one over on the back and a second 37 for a total of 74 on the round.

Hoovler also started off with an opening bogey but got it right back with a birdie three at the second. Hoovler carded a bogey at the third but a birdie at the fifth got him back on track. Hoovler posted a bogey at six but three straight pars to end his front nine saw him card a one over, 37 on the front nine. Hoovler went par, par, before a birdie at the par four 12th but then carded a double at the par three 15th. Hoovler grabbed a stroke back with a bounce back birdie at the 16th but ended his round with a double bogey, bogey to card a 38 on the back and a 75 overall.

Andrew Bauer fired a 76 at the preview and posted the third best score for the Golden Wolves. Bogeys plagued Bauer's front nine that saw him card a five over, 41 on the front nine. Bauer carded four pars on the front and started his back nine with a bogey at ten but responded with six pars in a row on 11 through 16. Bauer then recorded a birdie birdie finish to fire a one under, 35 on the back nine to card a four over, 76.

Gagliardi rounded the counting scores out for the Golden Wolves with an eight over 80 on Sunday. Gagliardi started his day with three straight pars before a double at the par three fourth but he bounced back with three more pars at five, six and seven. He then tallied a double at eight but a par at the ninth saw him card a 40 on the front. Gagliardi then carded four pars in his next eight holes on the back nine before a birdie finish at the par five 18th saw him card another 40 and an 80 overall.

Jack Lynam recorded a round of 82 at the MAC Preview and started his day with seven straight pars before carding bogeys at the eighth and ninth to record a two over, 38 on the front nine. Lynam then tallied two pars in his first three holes on the back but then carded bogeys and some other big numbers to post a 44 on the back and an 82 on the round.

Matt Davies tallied the final score for the Golden Wolves and carded an 88. Davies fired a 42 on the front nine with pars at one, two, three, seven and eight. Davies then recorded par at the par five 11th and par three 13th to post a 46 on the back and an 88 for the day.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Thursday when they travel down to Piney Branch Country Club to compete in the Stevenson Spring Invitational.
