York, Pa. (April 16, 2024) - Alvernia University Women's Tennis (3-7, 2-2) dropped a tight contest to York College (3-8, 2-1) on Tuesday evening at York as the Spartans took the MAC Commonwealth contest, 5-4. 

The Spartans took a 3-0 lead after doubles action. Alvernia was able to nearly grab a point at #1 doubles, but the Spartans took the match on the tiebreaker. 

The Spartans then took a 4-0 lead after taking #5 singles to open up individual play. Alvernia got one back at #3 singles after Lily Summerson won by retirement in the second set after taking the first set, 5-2. 

The Spartans extended their lead back to four, 5-1, with a two-set win at #6 singles to put the match out of reach with three singles matches yet to conclude.

Alvernia won the final three singles matches as Leah Bouchard, Jillian Laughman, and Monica Nguyen each picked up wins. But, the Spartans came away with the 5-4 win. 

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday hosting Stevenson.
