Eagles Better Golden Wolves, 17-2

Sabarese Hits 600 Saves in Setback

Reading, Pa (April 17, 2024) - Eastern University (5-9, 1-3) took down Alvernia University (4-9, 0-4) 17-2, in a MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse matchup Wednesday evening at Alvernia. 

Sabarese eclipsed the 600 save mark for his career in the setback to Eastern and now sits second all time in program history with 603 career saves. Sabarese passed Jacob O'Donnell who finished his career with 591 saves for Alvernia. 

The Eagles held the Golden Wolves scoreless through three quarters en route to the victory. 

How it Happened 
  • Eastern grabbed a 4-0 lead after the first quarter of play thanks to goals from Connor Bachman, Nick Litzenberger, Brennan Kaut and Christopher Fanelli. 
  • The Eagles then tacked on seven more in the second quarter to take a 11-0 lead into the half. Fanelli tallied another, Nicholas Fanelli scored, Bachman added two and Gavin Stark and Jake Vitone all scored goals as well. 
  • Eastern added three more in the third thanks to two from Avery Porter and one from Andrew Collins to maintain the 14-0 lead after three quarters of play. 
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board with nine minutes to go in the game after Kyle Moats assisted Colin McFadyen to make it 14-1. 
  • McFadyen added his second of the game just over a minute later thanks to an assist from Jack Keenan to make it 14-2. 
  • The Eagles tallied three more in the final seven minutes to close the game out and secure the 17-2 victory. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • McFadyen led the Golden Wolves offensively with both goals and both Moats and Keenan recorded assists. 
  • Jack Kenney went 15-23 on the faceoff and picked up 11 ground balls. 
  • Dane Sabarese started in goal and recorded 13 saves in three quarters. 
  • Jack Mancha recorded three saves in 15 minutes of action in net as well for the Golden Wolves. 

Up Next 
  • Alvernia is back in action on Saturday when they host Hood at 12:00 PM. Alvernia will honor the 2024 senior class prior to Saturday's matchup with the Blazers.
