Alvernia Falls to Hood, 7-4

Reading, Pa (April 20, 2024) - Alvernia University (4-10, 0-5) held a 3-2 lead at the half but Hood College (8-7, 2-3) scored five second half goals en route to the 7-4 victory in a MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse matchup Saturday afternoon at Alvernia. 

How it Happened 
  • Alvernia struck first just two minutes into the game when Jack Keenan assisted Kyle Moats to give the Golden Wolves an early 1-0 advantage. 
  • The Blazers tied the game with five minutes left in the first as the Blazers and the Golden Wolves heading to the second quarter tied at one. 
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed the lead back with just under ten minutes to go in the half when Ryan Gilman found the back of the net thanks to a Kyle Patton assist to make it 2-1 Alvernia. 
  • Hood leveled the score within the minute but the Golden Wolves grabbed the lead heading into the half after an Ethan McManus goal to make it 3-2 Golden Wolves at the break. 
  • The Blazers scored all three goals in the third quarter to take a 5-3 lead after three quarters of play. 
  • Hood then netted two goals in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to four, 7-3 with 13 minutes to go in the contest.
  • Zachary Moats grabbed one back for the Golden Wolves with five minutes to go to make it a 7-4 game but the Golden Wolves could not find the back of the net in the final five minutes as the Blazers took the 7-4 victory. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Kyle Moats led the way offensively for the Golden Wolves with one goal and one assist. 
  • McManus and Gilman also added goals and Zackary Moats tallied a goal as well. 
  • Keenan, Patton and Colin McFadyen all added assists for Alvernia. 
  • Jack Kenney went 6-14 on faceoffs and picked up four ground balls.
  • Dane Sabarese recorded 22 saves in the loss and picked up four ground balls.

Up Next 
  • Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Messiah to take on the Falcons in a MAC Commonwealth matchup at 6:00 PM.
