Lackner Breaks Career Draw Control Record as Golden Wolves Down Eagles, 21-4

Lackner and Moky Combine for 19 Points in the Victory

St. Davids, Pa (April 17, 2024) - Haleigh Lackner recorded 11 points and became the new all-time leader in draw controls as Alvernia University (5-9, 1-3) downed Eastern University (2-10, 0-4) 21-4 in a MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse matchup Wednesday evening at Eastern. 

Lackner finished with six draw controls, and is now at 309 for her career, setting a new career record. Lackner broke Sam Landis' record of 303 draw controls from 2009-2012 and set the new career record with 60 games played which is 14 games less than Landis. 

The Golden Wolves tallied eight in the first quarter and seven in the second to take a 15-3 lead at the half. Alvernia then came out and outscored the Eagles 6-1 in the second half en route to the 21-4 victory. 

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves got things going early in the contest with four goals in the first five minutes of the game. Lackner, Moky and Sophia Ruocco all netted unassisted goals and Moky then assisted Olivia McCambly to make it a 4-0 game. 
  • Alvernia then tallied four more goals in four minutes to make it an 8-0 game with Lackner netting all four of the Alvernia goals. Sherrin Smith, Mackenzie McKinney and Ruocco all recorded assists. 
  • Eastern grabbed two goals in the final 38 seconds of the first quarter but the Golden Wolves held the commanding, 8-2 lead after 15 minutes of play. 
  • Moky and McCambly both scored goals in the first three minutes of the second quarter to push the Alvernia lead to 10-2. 
  • Eastern's Grace Horton then found the back of the net with under 12 to go in the half to make it a 10-3 game.
  • The Golden Wolves then closed the first half out with five goals in the final seven minutes of the half to take a 15-3 lead at the break. Hailey Miller scored two goals, Lackner added two as well and Moky netted the fifth. 
  • Alvernia picked up right where they left off in the second half with Lackner scoring within  the first minute of the quarter to make it 16-3. 
  • Moky and Smith then scored goals in the final four minutes of the quarter with Smith's coming in the final seconds of the third quarter as the Golden Wolves held the 15 goal, 18-3 lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves recorded three final goals in the fourth quarter after Gracie Brower assisted Moky, Moky then assisted Ruocco and then Ruocco assisted McCambly to make it a 21-3 game. 
  • The Eagles netted one final goal in the final minute of play but the Golden Wolves secured the 21-4 victory over Eastern. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • In addition to her draw control record, Lackner led with 11 points off eight goals and three assists, picked up a team high seven ground balls and caused two turnovers. 
  • Moky recorded eight points with five goals and three assists, grabbed six draw controls and caused a team high five turnovers. 
  • McCambly recorded three goals and added an assist for a total of four points. 
  • Ruocco and Miller both netted two goals, Ruocco added two more assists and Miller recorded one. 
  • Hannah Tyler led with a team high seven draw controls, caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

  • The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Hood to take on the Blazers at 12:00 PM.
