Shawn Williams finished in a tie for fourth place with a score of 71 and
Jackson Hoovler fired a 73 to finish in a tie for sixth to lead Alvernia University to a third place finish at the Stevenson Spring Invitational at Piney Branch Golf Club on Thursday.
Williams fired a career low 71 to lead the Golden Wolves and finished even par on the day. Williams started his day with four straight pars before a bogey at the par four fifth but bounced back with a birdie at six and nine to card an even par 36 on the front nine. Williams then rattled off five pars in a row to start his back nine and birdied the par four 15th. He ended his round with pars at the 16th and 17th but a bogey at the 18th saw him get back to even par for the day and card a 35 on the back. Williams finished with a 36/35=71 on the day and finished in a tie for fourth place
Hoovler fired a two over 73 on Thursday which is his lowest score of the spring. Hoovler carded par on three of his first four holes before a birdie at the fifth. He then finished out his front nine with four straight pars to fire an even par 36 on the front nine. Hoovler pared the tenth hole but three straight bogeys at 11,12 and 13 saw him jump to three over par. Hoovler got back on track with a birdie at the par five 14th and finished the rest of his back nine even par to card a two over 38 on the back. Hoovler finished with a 36/37=73 overall and finished in a tie for sixth place.
Jack Lynam recorded the third best score for the Golden Wolves with a six over 77 at the invitational. Lyman started his day with a bogey on one but responded with back to back birdies on two and three. He then recorded three pars in his final six holes on the front nine to post a three over 39 on the front. A bogey, bogey start on the back nine was picked up by a birdie and two pars at 12,13 and 14 and he then finished with two pars in his final three holes to post a 38 on the back. Lynam finished with a score of 39/38=77 on the day and finished in a tie for 17th place.
Matthew Gagliardi rounded out the counting scores for the Golden Wolves and posted a 79 which is his best score of the spring season. Gagliardi started his day with a big number at the first but bounced back with back to back pars at 2 and 3. After back to back bogeys at 4 and 5, Gagliardi eagled the par five sixth and finished with one par in his final three holes to card a 43 on the front nine. Gagliardi's eagle three at the sixth hole was his first collegiate eagle. He then started his back nine with a bogey at 10, 12 and 13 but another eagle at 14 saw him get back to one over par on the back nine. Gagliardi then carded four straight pars to finish his back nine and post a one over 36 on the back. Gagliardi finished with a 43/36=79 overall and finished in a tie for 24th place.
Alvernia is back in action next Saturday when they are at Golden Oaks Golf Club for the MAC Championships.
