Golden Wolves Roll Aggies, 16-7

Reading, Pa (April 24, 2024) - Alvernia University (23-13) tallied 19 total hits and scored 16 runs en route to a 16-7 victory over Delaware Valley University (12-22) in a non-conference baseball matchup Wednesday afternoon in Angelica Park. 

The Golden Wolves scored runs in six of their eight at bats and knocked around 19 total hits en route to the 16-7 victory. Jake Umans started on the hill for the Golden Wolves and went six innings, allowed five hits and five runs and earned the victory.

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first after a Mike Ramundo RBI double to dead center and a Ben Houghton sacrifice fly to score Ramundo to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
  • Alvernia tacked on two more in the second thanks to a Luke Jones RBI triple and another sacrifice fly, this one by Jake Chapman to push the Alvernia lead to four. 
  • The Golden Wolves tallied a run for the third straight inning in the home half of the third when Houghton notched his second RBI of the game on a single back up the middle to push it to a 5-0 ballgame. 
  • Alvernia kept pouring it on in the fourth inning with a four spot to take a 9-0 lead. Chapman started things off with an RBI single up the middle and then Ramundo tripled to drive in Chapman and make it a 7-0 game. 
  • Matt Edwards then smoked a two run homer down the left field line to extend the lead to 9-0. 
  • The Aggies grabbed two back in the fifth thanks to a two run homer from Jared Ecenroad to make it a 9-2 game. 
  • A three run shot by Jonathan Drews in the sixth pulled Del Val within four, 9-5. 
  • The Golden Wolves responded with three more in the home half of the sixth after a Bobby Hansen RBI single through the left side and then Jason Lind singled up the middle to score two more runs to make it a 12-5 ballgame. 
  • Hansen then scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning to push it to a 13-5 lead in the eighth. Mike Pulcini then smoked a two RBI double into the left center gap to extend the lead to ten, 15-5. 
  • Scott Anderson finished off a four run eighth inning to make it a 16-5 ballgame. 
  • An RBI double to center scored two more runs in the top of the ninth but the Golden Wolves secured the 16-7 victory over the Aggies.
