Falcons Down Golden Wolves, 18-7

McCambly notches 100th career point

Reading, Pa (April 24, 2024) - Messiah University (8-8, 6-0) took down Alvernia University (5-11, 1-5) 18-7, in a MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse matchup Wednesday evening at Alvernia. 

Messiah outscored the Golden Wolves 11-2 in the first half and netted six fourth quarter goals en route to the victory. 

How it Happened 
  • Messiah got things going early with four goals in the first five minutes of the quarter to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. 
  • Olivia McCambly ended the scoring run with just over eight minutes to go in the first thanks to a Haleigh Lackner assist to make it a 4-1 game. 
  • Messiah tallied the final two goals of the quarter to take a 6-1 lead into the second quarter. 
  • The Falcons scored three quick goals to start the second quarter to push the lead to eight. 
  • Sherrin Smith assisted Sophia Ruocco with under 11 minutes to go in the half to end the Messiah scoring run and make it 9-2. 
  • The Falcons then grabbed two more goals in the final nine minutes of the half to take a 11-2 lead after the first 30 minutes. 
  • Messiah netted the first goal of the second half to make it 12-2 but the Golden Wolves ripped off four straight goals to end the third quarter within six, 12-6. 
  • Hailey Miller assisted McCambly to start things off which put McCambly at 100 points for her career. 
  • Meagan Moky then tallied back to back unassisted goals and Lackner scored in the final 20 seconds of the quarter to pull within six. 
  • The Falcons then pushed the lead back to eight after two goals in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter made it a 14-6 game.
  • Mackenzie McKinney netted a powerplay opportunity thanks to an assist from Moky to make it 14-7 with 11 minutes to go. 
  • The Falcons then tallied four goals in the final 11 minutes to secure the 18-7 victory. 

Inside the Box Score
  • McCambly netted two goals on the day and reached 100 career points, Moky added two goals and an assist and Lackner recorded a goal and an assist. 
  • Smith and Miller both tallied the only other assists for the Golden Wolves. 
  • Lackner picked up five ground balls and five draw controls and caused two turnovers. 
  • Moky tallied three draw controls and led with five shots on goal. 
  • Hannah Wolfe recorded nine saves in goal for the Golden Wolves.

  • The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday when they travel to crosstown rival Albright to take on the Lions at 11:00 AM in the final MAC Commonwealth matchup of the season.
