Reading, Pa (April 27, 2024) - Alvernia University (24-15, 15-6) split a MAC Commonwealth baseball doubleheader with York College (19-18, 11-10) Saturday afternoon in Angelica Park.
The Golden Wolves grabbed game one 1-0 thanks to a Bobby Hansen sacrifice fly to even the series at 1-1 but the Spartans took game two, 11-8 after scoring a run in the top of the ninth to tie it and another four in the tenth to secure the victory.

How it Happened
- The Golden Wolves grabbed the lone run of the game in the bottom of the second when Bobby Hansen hit a sacrifice fly to left center to score Matt Edwards and give Alvernia a 1-0 lead.
- Brad Coley came on in the seventh to close the game out and picked the tying run off of first base to end the game and secure the 1-0 win for the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
- The Spartans grabbed the early lead after a sacrifice fly in the first inning that gave York a 1-0 lead.
- The Golden Wolves tallied two in the bottom of the second after Hansen recorded an RBI groundout to tie the game at one. Garrett Hunter then tallied a sacrifice fly to center that was deep enough to score Ben Houghton to give the Golden Wolves a 2-1 lead.
- York leveled the score in the top of the third after an RBI single to center field that made it a 2-2 ballgame.
- Alvernia responded in the bottom of the third with a run to take the 3-2 lead thanks to a Jason Kelly single to center field and a York error allowed Mike Ramundo to score to give Alvernia the lead.
- The Spartans then scored four runs in the next three innings to take a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning. York scored a run in the fourth to tie the game at three, then took the 5-3 lead in the fifth after a two run homer to right field and a run in the sixth gave the Spartans a three run lead.
- Hunter got the Golden Wolves back within two after an RBI double down the right field line to make it a 6-4 ballgame after six innings of play.
- Alvernia then took the one run lead after scoring three runs in the seventh inning after RBI singles from Ramundo and Edwards to tie the game at six and then Houghton recorded a sacrifice fly to make it a 7-6 ballgame.
- York then tied the game up in the top of the ninth after a wild pitch allowed the tying run to score to make it 7-7. The Golden Wolves were unable to plate a run in the bottom of the ninth as the game headed to extras.
- The Spartans tallied four in the top of the tenth to regain the lead, 11-7.
- The Golden Wolves got one back in the bottom of the tenth after a Kelly RBI double but it was not enough as the Spartans grabbed game three and secured the series win over the Golden Wolves.

Of Note
- The Golden Wolves locked up the two seed in the final weekend of MAC Commonwealth play and will host Hood in the first round of the MAC Commonwealth playoffs.
- The series loss to the Spartans is just the second series loss of the season for Alvernia.
