Three Golden Wolves Earn All-MAC Commonwealth Honors, Alvernia Takes Third in Team Race

Fleetwood, Pa (April 28, 2024) - Alvernia University recorded a third place team finish at the 2024 Men's Golf MAC Championships Sunday at Golden Oaks Golf Club. 

Shawn Williams finished in a tie for second to earn first team All-MAC Commonwealth honors, Jackson Hoovler finished in a tie for fourth and also earned first team All-MAC Commonwealth honors. Jack Lynam rounded out the All-Conference honorees with a T9 finish to earn second team All-MAC Commonwealth honors. 

Alvernia's three All-MAC Commonwealth honorees is the most for the Golden Wolves since the 2012 championships where Alvernia placed five golfers in the top ten. 

Williams fired an even par 72 on the second day of the championships and finished in a tie for second place. Williams started his day with a par at the first but dropped a stroke at the second after a bogey. Williams then bounced back and ripped off seven straight pars to end his front nine and card a one over 37. Williams then pared the tenth and birdied the par five 11th to get back to even par on the day before recording two more pars at 12 and 13. Back to back bogeys at 14 and 15 saw him fall back to two over but Williams responded with a par on 16 and the drained back to back birdies on 17 and 18 to get back to even par for the round and finish with a two day total of 76/72=148. 

Jackson Hoovler also fired an even par 72 on the second day of the championships and finished in a tie for fourth place. Hoovler fired a one under 35 on the back after carding four straight pars to start his day, he then birdied the fifth and finished with four more pars to round out his front nine. Hoovler carded two bogeys and two pars in his first four holes on the back nine before carding three straight pars and a birdie on 17. Hoovler then carded par on the par five 18th to secure an even par 72 on day two and finished with a two day total of 77/72=149. 

Jack Lynam carded a 73 on the second day of the tournament and finished in a tie for ninth place. Lynam bogeyed his first hole but bounced back with four pars in his next six holes. Lynam then posted back to back pars to finish the front nine with a three over, 39. Lynam started his back nine with two pars and two birdies in his first four holes. Lynam then carded a bogey at the tough par three 15th before finishing with a par at the 16th, a birdie at the 17th and then a par on 18 to finish with a one over 73. Lynam finished the championships with a 77/73=150. 

Andrew Bauer rounded out the counting scores for the Golden Wolves and finished with a 79 on day two and finished in 28th place. Bauer doubled the first before carding four straight pars, he then posted a bogey on six before tallying three pars to end his front nine with a three over 39. Bauer then carded four bogeys and three pars in his first seven holes on the back nine before posting back to back pars on 17 and 18 to card a 40 on the back nine. Bauer finished the tournament with a two day total of 83/79=162.

Matthew Gagliardi carded a day two score of 86 and finished in 30th place. Gagliardi carded four pars and a birdie on his front nine where he posted a 44, he then tallied four pars on the back nine and posted a 42 on the back to finish with an 86. Gagliardi recorded a two day total of 83/86=169. 

The MAC Commonwealth Championships marked the end of the 2023-2024 season for the Golden Wolves.
