Men's Golf Wraps Up Competition at Hershey Cup

Hershey, Pa. (April 8, 2024) - Alvernia University Men's Golf shaved 17 strokes off its first day total to finish with a two-day total of 645 and take 15th place on Monday at the final day of the Hershey Cup, hosted by the University of Rochester at Hershey Country Club.

Alvernia finished with a 314 on Monday, 17 strokes better than Sunday's 331, for a two-day total of 331. 

Wittenberg University, who finished in 13th at the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship, took first in the event with a two-day total of 599. The host Yellow Jackets took second with a two-day total of 602. Wittenberg's J.F. Aber won the event with a two-day total of 2-over 144. 

Jack Lynam led Alvernia on Monday with a round of 5-over 76, a two stroke improvement from Sunday's round of 78. Lynam was 5-over on the back nine, but birdied three of his first four holes on the front nine. He finished with bogeys on two of his last three holes for the round of 76. Lynam's two-day total of 154 secured him a T-28th place finish in the field of 87.

Shawn Williams and Jackson Hoovler both finished with a two-day total of 162 to finish in a tie for 55th place. Williams carded a 6-over 77 on Monday for an eight-stroke improvement from Sunday. Hoovler improved by four strokes from Sunday with a round of 8-over 79 on Monday.

Williams was even through the first three holes before giving one back with a bogey on the 13th. He moved back to even par with a birdie on the 14th before finishing the back nine at 2-over. He pared his first two holes of the front nine before going +3 combined on the third and fourth holes. He then strung together four straight pars before finishing with a bogey on the ninth for his round of 77.

Hoovler started his round on Monday with a par on the tenth. He carded five more pars on the rest of the back nine, but made the turn at +3 with bogeys on the 11th, 16th, and 17th holes. Hoovler carded five more pars on the front nine, including a par on the ninth to finish out his round with a 79.

Andrew Bauer finished with a two-day total of 167, including a round of 82 on Monday, to take T-68th overall. Bauer improved by three strokes from Sunday. He started his day with a par on the tenth. He moved to 1-over with a bogey on the 11th, but moved back down to even for the day with a birdie on the 12th. Bauer was then 5-over through his first eight holes, but he closed out the back nine with a birdie on the 18th to make the turn at 4-over. Bauer carded three pars on the front nine and picked up a stroke with a birdie on the par three eighth. But, he finished his round with a double on the ninth for the round of 82.

Matthew Gagliardi finished as Alvernia's fifth with a two-day total of 176 to finish in 81st overall. Gagliardi's round on Monday was highlighted by birdies on the par four 11th and par four seventh. He also had four pars on the day for the round of 91.
