Philadelphia, Pa. (May 3, 2024) - Following a marathon 14-inning game that lasted nearly three hours, #3 York College came out on top on a game-winning single in the bottom of the 14th inning to defeat #2 Alvernia University, 2-1, in a MAC Commonwealth Championship elimination game on Friday at Penn Park on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

How it Happened
- Following 12 scoreless innings, Alvernia broke through first in the top of the 13th as Alexia Fitzgerald scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor McClain. But, the Spartans matched Alvernia's run in their half of the 13th to push the game into the 14th inning. With a runner on third and two outs, York's Emma Wade drove in the game-winning run on a single through the right side.

- The Golden Wolves got out of a few jams to keep the game going. Taylor McClain made a fantastic catch on a low line drive in the bottom of the eighth with two runners on base and two outs to end the York threat. In the 12th inning, Julie Burkhardt made a fantastic sliding catch in the York bullpen to end the inning and strand York runners on second and third base.Â
- Maggie Loomis went the distance for Alvernia in the circle with a pitch count just shy of 210.
- The 14-inning game was Alvernia's longest on record in the last 15 years.Â
- With her single in the ninth, Brooke Hauck extended her hitting streak to 11 games - the longest hitting streak of the season for Alvernia. She also extended her reach base streak to 14 games.
- The loss by one-run was Alvernia's sixth loss by a single run this season.
