Alvernia Runs by Immaculata, 4-1

Reading, Pa (September 1, 2024) - Alvernia University (1-0) used three second half goals to secure a 4-1 victory over Immaculata University (1-1) Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's soccer matchup at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves scored a goal in the first 15 minutes of their home opener before netting three in the second half en route to a 4-1 victory over the Mighty Macs.

How it Happened
  • Tayler Flaherty kicked things off with her first collegiate goal in the 15th minute of the contest after Megan Reuter whipped a cross in the box from a corner that found the head of Flaherty. Flaherty headed the ball past the Immaculata keeper and into the back of the net to notch Alvernia's first goal of the season.
  • The Golden Wolves and the Mighty Macs fired three shots in the final 30 minutes of the half but could not put one in the back of the net as Alvernia took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
  • Alvernia came out flying in the second half and scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half. Macy McDonough tallied the second goal of the game for Alvernia after a give and go from Olivia Swartz, McDonough weaved her way through the Immaculata defense and buried her attempt into the back of the net to make it a 2-0 game.
  • Swartz then added her name to the scoresheet just five minutes later after she drew a foul in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Swartz fired the opportunity into the back of the goal and extended the Golden Wolves lead to three with under 40 minutes to play.
  • The Mighty Macs grabbed one back in the 75th minute after Rachel McNamee scored an outstanding goal off a free kick to make it 3-1.
  • The Golden Wolves responded almost immediately after Haley Dougherty picked the pocket of an Immaculata defender deep in Immaculata's defensive zone, she then ripped a shot by the Mighty Macs keeper and into the back of the net to secure the 4-1 victory.
