Flaherty Scores Twice, Golden Wolves Shutout Dutchmen 2-0

Reading, Pa (September 3, 2024) - First Year Tayler Flaherty netted two goals for the Golden Wolves as Alvernia University (2-0) took down Lebanon Valley College (0-2) 2-0, Tuesday night in a non-conference women's soccer matchup at Alvernia.

Flaherty tallied both of her goals within the first two minutes of the first and second halves to power the Golden Wolves to the shutout victory. Flaherty's goal is her third goal in her first two games at the collegiate level.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia struck first early in the first half after Talyer Flaherty scored the opening goal thanks to an assist from Haley Dougherty. Dougherty found Flaherty coming up the right wing. Dougherty then dished the ball up to Flaherty, Flaherty struck it and snuck it just inside the right post and past the outstretched hand of the diving LVC keeper to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0 within the first five minutes of the game.
  • Alvernia rattled off 11 shots at the Dutchmen net, sending seven on target but Lebanon Valley's Camryn Porter saved all seven to keep the Alvernia lead to one heading into the break.
  • Flaherty grabbed her second goal of the game in the first five minutes of the second half after Macy McDonough assisted Flaherty. McDonough settled a LVC goal kick, McDonough then found Flaherty who hit a rocket straight past the LVC keeper and into the back of the net to double the Golden Wolves lead.
  • Flaherty almost made it 3-0 with just over 35 minutes to play in half after she ripped a shot at the LVC goal by Porter made a great save to deny Flaherty and kept the Alvernia lead at two.
  • Dougherty also threatened in the final 30 minutes of the half but was denied by a last ditch defending effort by Lebanon Valley to make a sliding goal line save to keep the Golden Wolves out of the goal.
  • The Golden Wolves would send three more shots at the LVC goal but could not find a third as they held on for the 2-0 shutout victory over the Dutchmen.
