Golden Wolves Sneak Past Fords, 1-0

Haverford, Pa (September 14, 2024) - Alvernia University (4-1) snuck by Haverford College (2-2) 1-0 thanks to a Kelsy McClintock penalty stroke Saturday afternoon in a non-conference field hockey matchup at Haverford.

The Golden Wolves only needed one shot on goal en route to the 1-0 victory over the Fords. Haverford tallied 13 shots at the Alvernia net but could only put four on frame and Alvernia goalie Lexi Boettcher saved all four to secure the shutout victory.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia was held without a shot in the first quarter, but the Alvernia defense limited Haverford to just four shots - one on goal - to keep the Fords off the board as well heading into the second frame.
  • The back and forth continued in the opening minutes of the second quarter until Alvernia was awarded a penalty stroke opportunity in the McClintock went for the left side, and so did the goalie, but her shot beat out the goalie's dive to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead with just over three minutes to play in the first half.
  • Alvernia's offense continued to struggle to find opportunities on goal in the third quarter, but Alvernia's defense and goalie Boettcher continued to hold the Fords off the board as Alvernia took a 1-0 lead into the final frame.
  • Alvernia's defense completely locked things down in the fourth quarter, not allowing a shot by the Fords as Alvernia came away with the 1-0 win.
