Warriors Down Golden Wolves

Reading, Pa (September 17, 2024) - Lycoming College (7-0) used two second half goals en route to a 3-0 victory over Alvernia University (2-4) Tuesday night in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia.

The Warriors held a slim, 1-0 lead heading into the half but then tallied two goals in five minutes to secure the 3-0 victory over the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves had two early opportunities after Lycoming's goalie picked up the ball outside of the box and gave Alvernia a free kick on the outside of the 18 but the Golden Wolves could not put the ball in the net.
  • Alvernia had another chance shortly after when Haley Dougherty stepped up to the penalty spot but was unable to convert the chance after Lycoming's Riley Block dove to her left and made a great save in the bottom corner of the goal to deny Dougherty and keep it a 0-0 game.
  • Just about halfway into the first half Lycoming struck first after Aubrey Williamson flicked the ball to Madison Maihle, Maihle then hit a one time shot from almost 30 yards out and into the top right corner of the goal to make it 1-0.
  • Alvernia was shown a red card in the final eight minutes of the half and were down to ten players.
  • The Golden Wolves came out of the half and put two shots at the Lycoming goal with one going on target thanks to Kalyn Keen but Alvernia was unable to put the ball in the net.
  • The Warriors then tallied two goals in just over five minutes to grab the 3-0 lead. Kaitlyn Born assisted Mikayla Long on Lycoming's second goal and then Abigail Umhoefer netted an unassisted goal to secure the 3-0 victory for the Warriors.
