Cogill Scores Hattrick, Fuels 3-2 Comeback Over Scarlet Raptors

Camden, N.J. (September 25, 2024) - Alvernia University's (5-2-2) Ryan Cogill netted a hat trick to power the Golden Wolves to a 3-2 comeback victory over Rutgers-Camden University (4-4-2) Wednesday night in non-conference men's soccer action at Rutgers-Camden.

The Scarlet Raptors grabbed the early lead but Alvernia leveled the score before the break as it headed to halftime tied 1-1. The Golden Wolves then took a 2-1 lead early in the second half after a Cogill penalty but the Scarlet Raptors tied the game in the final 15 minutes on a wonder goal off a corner kick. Cogill then answered with his third of the game, thanks to a great ball by Dominic Flowers to secure the 3-2 victory for the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
  • The Scarlet Raptors grabbed the early lead in the first ten minutes after Jason Angel  collected a loose ball and as he was falling to the ground, put his shot attempt into the upper right corner to make it a 1-0 game.
  • The Golden Wolves leveled the score with just over 20 minutes left in the half after Connor Kraycik ran down a long ball down the Rutgers-Camden sideline, he collected the ball, looked up and saw Ryan Cogill making a run. Kraycik then played a long ball back across the field to the top of the Rutgers-Camden box, Cogill out jumped the Scarlet Raptors goalie and put the ball into the back of the net to make it a 1-1 game heading into the half.
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed the lead early in the second half after Cogill was fouled in the box and was awarded a penalty. Cogill stepped up to the spot, fooled the keeper and put his attempt opposite of the way he dove to make it a 2-1 game.
  • The Scarlet Raptors found an equalizer with under 13 minutes to go in the game after Nathan Biersbach scored an unreal olympico goal. Biersbach ripped the ball into the Alvernia box and on goal, Solley was unable to catch it as it flew into the top right corner of the goal to make it a 2-2 game.
  • The Golden Wolves looked to have the lead with under ten minutes to go in the game after Evan Case found Cristian Topovich on the back post, Topovich then seemingly headed the ball into the back of the net but the referee called a handball to disallow the goal and keep the game tied at two.
  • Alvernia bagged the game winner just a few minutes later when Dominic Flowers dribbled around four Rutgers-Camden defenders and then played a wonderball to a streaking Cogill. Cogill controlled the pass and slotted the ball into the back of the net to secure the 3-2 victory for the Golden Wolves.
