Golden Wolves Drop MAC Commonwealth Opener to Falcons, 3-0

Grantham, Pa (September 25, 2024) - Messiah University (8-5, 1-0) took down Alvernia University (8-5, 0-1) 3-0 in straight sets Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's volleyball action at Messiah. 

The Falcons took the conference opening match 3-0 after taking down the Golden Wolves 25-15, 25-18, 25-15. 

How it Happened 
  • Alvernia and Messiah traded points back and forth to start the set with the Falcons taking a slight lead, 11-9 after the first 20 points of the set. Olivia Rohrbaugh recorded two kills for Alvernia and Allie Evangelista added another. Messiah then ripped off a 10-5 scoring run to push the lead to seven, 21-14 and force an Alvernia timeout. The Falcons then came out of the time out and scored four of the final six points of the set to take the first set 25-16. 
  • The Golden Wolves got out to a hot start in the second set, taking an early 5-1 lead to force a Falcons timeout but the Falcons came out of the timeout and ripped off eight straight points to take the 9-5 lead and force an Alvernia timeout. Messiah then continued to control the set after going on a 15-9 scoring run that put them up 24-14. The Golden Wolves ended the set on a 4-1 run but it was not enough as the Falcons took set two 25-18 and grabbed the 2-0 match lead. 
  • Messiah was the one to take the early lead in the third set, jumping out to a 13-6 lead in the third set. Allison Wolf, Lindsay Ferguson and Cierra Roberts all recorded kills for the Golden Wolves during the stretch. The Golden Wolves and the Falcons traded points back and forth with Messiah holding the seven point, 20-13 lead. Messiah then ended the third set on a 4-2 run to secure the 25-15 victory in the third set and the 3-0 match victory.
