Lancaster, PA (Sept. 27, 2024) - Lancaster Bible College (13-4) swept Alvernia University (8-6), 3-0, on Friday night in non-conference women's volleyball action at Lancaster Bible College.
This was the second meeting between the Chargers and Golden Wolves this season. Lancaster Bible also swept Alvernia in the opening weekend of the 2024 season.
How it Happened
- In the first set, the Chargers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead. But, Alvernia brought it back within one, 6-5, on an ace from Caroline Buggy. The Golden Wolves stuck close to the Chargers on the next few rallies, but the Chargers then used a 9-3 to pull away and take a 20-12 lead. The Chargers went on to close out the first set, 28-15, to take the 1-0 match lead.
- Alvernia took the first point in set two on an opening kill from Jamie Pierce, but the Chargers quickly evened it up at 1-1 on an Alvernia service error. The Golden Wolves and Chargers went point-for-point until the set was tied at 15-15. Then, the Chargers closed out the second set with a bang on a 10-4 to take the set, 25-19, and take the 2-0 match lead.
- Alvernia led the third set early, 3-2, following an ace from Hailey McDevitt, a kill from Pierce, and Lancaster Bible attack error. But, the set took a turn from there. Lancaster Bible went on an 11-4 run to take a 14-7 set lead. Alvernia called a timeout, but could not regroup. The Chargers outscored Alvernia 11-6 the rest of the way to take the set, 25-13, and the match, 3-0.
