Alvernia Nets Six, Blows by Chargers 6-2

Reading, Pa (September 4, 2024) - Alvernia University (1-1) tallied six goals in the first 45 minutes to take down Lancaster Bible College (0-2) 6-2, in a non-conference men's soccer matchup Wednesday afternoon at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves scored three goals in the opening seven minutes, then scored three more in the next 25 minutes. The Chargers grabbed one back in the first half and then netted a second in the final 15 minutes but it was not enough as the Golden Wolves secured the 6-2 victory over the Chargers.

How it Happened
  • Cristian Topovich got things going for the Golden Wolves in the first 46 seconds of the game after Domonic Flowers whipped a cross into the LBC box that found the head of Topovich. Topovich then flicked his header into the top left corner of the goal to make it a 1-0 game within the first minute.
  • Connor Kraycik doubled the lead just over three minutes later after converting a penalty to make it 2-0. Ryan Cogill drew a foul in the box to win the penalty and gave the ball to Kraycik who slotted his attempt into the bottom right corner of the goal to extend the Alvernia lead.
  • The Golden Wolves make it three in the seventh minute of play when Cogill found the back of the net after a terrific long ball by Evan Bauer from the center back position, Cogill then took advantage of an LBC error and put the ball in the back of the net to make it 3-0 Golden Wolves.
  • Joshue Avila notched his name on the scoresheet in the 16th minute after collecting a Charger's clearance, he then took a few dribbles before striking the ball and sending it into the top right corner of the goal and past the outstretched hand of the Chargers keeper and into the back of the net to make it a 4-0 game.
  • Kraycik then tallied his second goal of the game just 24 seconds later after a Flowers assist made it a 5-0 ballgame in favor of the Golden Wolves.
  • Lancaster Bible grabbed one back in the 24th minute when Dan Marcroft found the back of the goal to make it a 5-1 game.
  • Eli Klinger then added his name to the scoresheet in the 33rd minute after Zeke Zambrano found Klinger flying down the left wing. Klinger collected the pass and blasted the ball past the keeper and into the net to make it 6-1.
  • The Chargers tallied the only goal of the second half in the 74th minute when Luke Myers assisted Moses Katembo to make it 6-2.
