Alvernia Scores Early and Often in 7-3 Win Over Hood

Hagerstown, MD (Jan.  10, 2025) - Alvernia University (9-4-1, 5-4-1) had seven different skaters score in a 7-3 win over Hood College (3-11,1-9) on Friday evening in MAC Women's Ice Hockey at Hood College.

Alvernia jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first six minutes, but Hood closed it down to 3-2 heading into the second period. It remained a one goal game, 4-3, heading into the third period. But, Alvernia pulled away in the third period with three unanswered goals to secure the 7-3 win.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves needed just over two minutes of action to get on the board as Moa Lagh ripped a shot in from just inside the blue line for her first career goal to give Alvernia the early 1-0 lead.
  • Just three minutes later, Alvernia doubled-up on its lead coming out of a power-play as Sydney Bradley scored off the assist of Addy Gularte to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead through just under six minutes of action.
  • Alvernia kept it rolling and, just over a minute later, Emma Hart got loose on a breakaway and scored one-on-one against the Hood goalie to give Alvernia the 3-0 lead and record a goal in her third straight game.
  • Hood got right back into the game with two goals in four minutes to quickly cut Alvernia's lead down to one, 3-2, with six minutes to play in the opening period. The Golden Wolves pressured again late in the period, but Hood was able to keep Alvernia from tacking onto its lead as the game moved into the second with the score at 3-2.
  • After a back-and-forth opening minutes of the second period, Alvernia pushed its lead back up to two, 4-2, when Kathryn Palmer came crashing in from up the ice and scored on a pass off the left post from Julia Franklin.
  • The Blazers again answered back and came back within one, 4-3, on a putback goal early in the 13th minute of the period.
  • The Golden Wolves then had to kill off two Blazer power-plays across the final eight minutes of the period to keep it a one goal game, 4-3, heading into the final frame.
  • Alvernia began to pull away in the third period, and Riley Hill got things started in the period for the Golden Wolves with a goal in the eighth minute that just cleared the right kick-out of the Hood goalie to give Alvernia the 5-3 lead.
  • Noelle De Magistris then got in on the scoring for Alvernia and made it a 6-3 game as the period approached its midpoint. De Magistris was able to garner control of a loose puck in front of the net and fired a shot in to give Alvernia the three goal advantage with ten minutes to play.
  • The Golden Wolves held the Blazers at bay the rest of the way and got one more late goal off the stick off Khenzie Connick with three minutes to play as Connick became the seventh goal-scorer of the game for the Golden Wolves.
  • Alvernia goalie Stephanie Skorupa made five saves in the third to keep the Blazers off the board in the final period.
