Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | By Marisa Lombardo (Director of Sports Information)

Alvernia Falls to Arcadia, 4-1

Colmar, Pa. (Jan. 17, 2025) - Arcadia University (11-3-1, 9-2) scored early and held off Alvernia University (9-5-1, 5-5-1) in a 4-1 win over the Golden Wolves in MAC Women's Ice Hockey action on Friday evening at Arcadia's Hatfield Ice Arena.

The Knights scored twice in the first period, and added a goal in both the second and third periods en route to the win to open the three-game conference series. Arcadia's win put an end to Alvernia's five-game winning streak, which matched a program-best.

How it Happened
  • The Knights got on the board quickly with a goal just two minutes into the game, and Arcadia maintained control of the puck for much of the first half of the period.
  • Arcadia then made it a 2-0 game on a breakaway goal from Arcadia's Karhkwenhawe White, but Arcadia's two goal advantage lasted just 18 seconds. While White's goal was being announced, Alvernia's Riley Hill tapped in a loose puck in front of the net to make it a one goal game, 2-1, with one minute to play in the opening period. Neither team got a shot off in the final minute as the game moved into the second with the Knights holding one goal advantage.
  • The Knights came into the second period and sent in a slew of shots, but Stephanie Skorupa and Alvernia's defense kept the Knights at bay until White scored her second of the evening - this time on a power-play - in the 13th minute of the period to make it a 3-1 game.
  • Alvernia was awarded a power-play three minutes and sent in six shots on goal, but Arcadia made the stops to keep it a two goal game.
  • Both teams traded opportunities in the final minutes of the second period, but neither could convert as Arcadia held the two goal lead heading into the final 20 minutes.
  • The Golden Wolves came into the third period pressuring, sending in nine shots in the opening six minutes. But, Alvernia could not break through. Instead, the Knights add an insurance goal as White recorded a hat trick to make it a 4-1 game with 13 minutes to play.
  • Alvernia was unable to find the back of the net again as Arcadia opened the weekend series with the 4-1 win.
