Golden Wolves Fall to Widener in OT, 81-72

Chester, Pa (January 18, 2025) - Alvernia University (8-7, 2-2) outscored Widener University (11-4, 4-0) 41-30 in the third and fourth quarters to send the game to overtime tied at 69, but the Pride outscored the Golden Wolves 12-3 in the OT period to secure the 81-72 victory in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action Saturday at Widener. 

How it Happened
  • The Pride jumped out to an 8-4 lead early in the first quarter but a Ryleigh Poole three pulled the game within one, 8-7 with three minutes to play in the first quarter. 
  • Widener responded with a 12-2 scoring run that pushed its lead to 11, 20-9 after one quarter of play. 
  • The Pride pushed the lead to as many as 15 in the second quarter as they headed to the halftime break with a 15 point, 39-24 lead over the Golden Wolves. 
  • Jennah DeGout led the Golden Wolves with 11 points in the first half. Poole and Paige O'Brien recorded three points and Olivia Burke, Kylie Bradford and Jordyn Ingelido all tallied two apiece. 
  • The Golden Wolves came out of the half and outscored the Pride 18-16 in the third quarter but Widener still held a 13 point, 55-42 lead over the Golden Wolves. Widener held the lead above 12 for the entire quarter but the Golden Wolves kept chipping away heading into the fourth quarter. 
  • Alvernia continued to pull the momentum its way and started the fourth quarter on a 16-7 scoring run that cut the deficit within four, 62-58 with under five to go in regulation. O'Brien tallied eight during the stretch for Alvernia and Burke added six. 
  • A Bradford three and two free throws pulled the Golden Wolves within one, 66-65 with under three minutes to go in the fourth as the Golden Wolves were the closest to tying the game since it was 7-8 in the first quarter. 
  • The Golden Wolves were within two, 69-67, with eight seconds to go before Nicole Etchison stole the ball off the Widener inbound and put the ball in the basket to tie the game at 69 and send the game to overtime. 
  • The Pride then outscored the Golden Wolves 12-3 in the overtime period to spoil the comeback from Alvernia and secured the 81-72 victory. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Jennah DeGout led the way with 23 points, ten rebounds and two blocks. 
  • Paige O'Brien recorded 16 points including four threes and also added four rebounds.

  • The Golden Wolves are back in action on Wednesday when they host Eastern for a MAC Commonwealth matchup at 6:00 PM on Jack McCloskey Court.
