Alvernia Downs Lebanon Valley to Open Oswego Tournament, 6-1

BOX SCORE Oswego, NY (Jan.3, 2025) - Alvernia University (5-6) scored early and often as the Golden Wolves returned from winter break with a 6-1 win over Lebanon Valley College (4-5-1) in the first night of action at the SUNY Oswego Holiday Tournament in Oswego, New York.

The Golden Wolves put up two goals in each period, and held the Dutchmen to just one goal early in the second period. The win marked Alvernia's first over the Dutchmen through three meetings between the two teams so far this season. However, today's game was a non-conference match-up.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board just under five minutes into the action with a put-back goal by Brock Mueller off the initial shot of Sean Kenny.
  • After a quick set of shots sent in by the Dutchmen, Alvernia took a 2-0 lead in the ninth minute with a goal from Matthew Imbriano.
  • The Dutchmen pressured in the latter half of the opening period, but Alvernia kept the Dutchmen off the board to take the 2-0 lead into the second period.
  • Lebanon Valley came into the second period with a quick burst of shots and was awarded a power-play opportunity just 41 seconds into the period. The Dutchmen broke through with just seconds to spare on the power-play to cut Alvernia's lead down to one, 2-1, just under three minutes into the period.
  • Alvernia pushed its lead back up to two, 3-1, with eight and half minutes to play on goal by Sawyer Senio, and the Golden Wolves made it a 4-1 game three minutes later on a goal from Easton Inglis. Alvernia took the 4-1 lead into the final 20 minutes of action.
  • Joey Arnold added two more goals for Alvernia in the third period - with goals in the sixth and 14th minutes of the period - to give Alvernia the 6-1 advantage. The Golden Wolves also killed off four Lebanon Valley power-play opportunities in the third period to secure the 6-1 win.
