Late Goals Lift Golden Wolves Past Falcons, 3-2

New Haven, CT (Jan. 4, 2025) - Alvernia University first year Emma Hart scored two goals in the final three and a half minutes to lift Alvernia to a 3-2 win over Albertus Magnus on Saturday evening in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Albertus Magnus.

Alvernia faced a 1-0 deficit early before tying the game at 1-1 later in the first period. The Golden Wolves then fell behind 2-1 early in the second and faced the same deficit as the game entered its final four minutes. Hart scored the equalizer with 3:29 to play, and then scored the game-winner just over a minute later.

How it Happened
  • Albertus Magnus took an early 1-0 lead on a power-play goal in the sixth minute of action, but Alvernia evened it up six minutes later when Khenzie Connick received a pass off the boards and ripped in for a top-shelf goal to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Both teams traded power-play opportunities in the remaining minutes of the period as the game moved to the second tied at 1-1.
  • The Golden Wolves and Falcons traded opportunities in the opening minutes of the second period. But, Albertus was awarded a power-play opportunity in the ninth minute and took advantage of the chance as the Falcons scored the go-ahead goal just under a minute into the player-up opportunity.
  • Alvernia had a power-play opportunity of its own late in the period, and the Golden Wolves were able to fire in two shots at net. But, both attempts were stopped as Albertus took the 2-1 lead into the final period.
  • The Falcons rode the 2-1 lead for the majority of the third period until Albertus was issued a game-misconduct with five and a half minutes to play, forcing the Falcons to play a player down for the majority of the remainder of regulation. Just over two and a half minutes into the power-play, Hart scored the equalizer on a deflection off the right post.
  • Hart kept it rolling, and just over a minute later she scored the game-winner after collecting a loose puck in front of the Albertus goalie and firing in a back-handed shot to give Alvernia the 3-2 lead.
  • Alvernia did not allow the Falcons another opportunity as Alvernia secured the 3-2 win.
