Golden Wolves Blank Blazers, 3-0

Hagerstown, Md (January 9, 2025) - Alvernia University (8-4-1, 4-4-1) tallied goals in all three periods en route to a 3-0 victory over Hood College (3-10, 1-8) Thursday afternoon in MAC women's ice hockey action at the Hagerstown Ice and Sports Complex.

How it Happened
  • Kathryn Palmer gave the Golden Wolves an early 1-0 lead in the first four minutes of the contest after Julia Franklin fired the puck in front of the net and found the stick of Palmer. Palmer then deflected the puck past the Hood goalie and into the back of the net to give Alvernia an early one goal advantage.
  • Alvernia would send 12 shots on the Hood goal in the final 15 minutes of the period but could not find the back of the net to extend the lead as the Golden Wolves took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
  • Alvernia goaltender Stephanie Skorupa recorded six saves in the first period to deny the Blazers the leveler.
  • The Golden Wolves doubled their lead in the first eight minutes of the second period after Emma Hart blocked a shot by Hood's Dakota Ormiston, Hart then collected the puck and flew down the ice, made a move toward the right side of the goal and fired the puck back across the goal and inside the left post to make it 2-0 Golden Wolves.
  • The Blazers fired 12 shots at the Alvernia net in the final ten minutes of the period but were unable to put the puck in the net. Skrupa made five saves and Sydney Bradley, Carolyn Burton and Madelyn Jukus all tallied blocked shots for the Golden Wolves as Alvernia took a 2-0 lead into the final intermission.
  • Alvernia tallied 14 shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the final period before they found the back of the net for the third time. Alvernia's Emma Hart found the stick of Marissa Caswell who centered the puck in front of the Hood net and found the stick of Kayla Moriarty who directed the puck past the goalie and into the back of the net to make it a 3-0 game with five minutes to go.
  • The Alvernia defense would hold strong and allowed just one shot in the final five minutes, which was blocked by Hart and secured the 3-0 shutout victory over the Blazers.
