Golden Wolves Fall to Falcons, 2-0

Reading, Pa. (October 10, 2025) - Alvernia University (5-8, 0-1) dropped its MAC Commonwealth opener to Messiah University (5-6, 1-0), 2-0, Friday evening at Alvernia's Turf Field.

The matchup kicked off Alvernia's Homecoming and Family Weekend and was the first of four home games this weekend.

Messiah netted goals in the second and fourth quarters en route to the victory over the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
  • A scoreless first quarter was highlighted by Messiah rattling off four shots at the Alvernia net with three going on goal but Alvernia's Zoe Caloviras saved all three to keep it tied at zero.
  • The Golden Wolves fired one shot at the Messiah net in the first 15 minutes which came off the stick of Kelsy McClintock. McClintock ripped a shot from the left side of the circle after a penalty corner but it ricochetted off the post to deny Alvernia a goal.
  • The Falcons got on the board just over two minutes into the second quarter after Ellie Lefever assisted Chelsea Carpenter on a penalty corner to give Messiah a 1-0 advantage.
  • The Golden Wolves recorded one penalty corner in the final five minutes of the half but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net as the Falcons took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • Both teams held each other at bay in the third quarter as neither team recorded a shot or a penalty corner in the 15 minutes of action, the game headed to the fourth quarter with Messiah holding a one goal lead.
  • Messiah added its insurance goal four minutes into the fourth quarter after Ellie Lefever found the back of the net after an assist from Lindsey Campione to make it a 2-0 Messiah lead.
  • Alvernia had a chance to grab one back in the 51st minute after McClintock ripped a shot at the Messiah net that was saved by Messiah's Joy Lippert, the ball then fell to a crashing Caroline Martin but her attempt went wide.
  • The Falcons had a chance to add to its lead in the 56th minute of the game after they were awarded a penalty stroke but Alvernia's Caloviras saved Carpenter's attempt from the penalty spot to keep it 2-0.
  • The Golden Wolves were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the quarter as the Falcons secured the 2-0 victory over the Golden Wolves.
