York, Pa. (Oct. 14, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Volleyball (6-9, 0-4) dropped a MAC Commonwealth Women's Volleyball match up to York College (7-10, 1-3) on Tuesday night at York.

The Spartans took set one, 25-17, to take the 1-0 match lead before Alvernia evened it up at 1-1 with a 27-25 set two win. The Spartans then took the match with a 25-20 set three win, and a 25-21 win in set four.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead over the Spartans and pushed its lead to 9-5 following three straight points off of kills by Allison Wolf and Caroline Buggy, as well as an attack error on the Spartans. York called a timeout, following an exchange of service errors, went on an 8-3 run to take a 14-13 lead. Alvernia tied it at 14-14 on a kill by Olivia Rohrbaugh, but the Spartans outscored Alvernia 11-3 the rest of the set to take the opening frame, 25-17.
  • The Spartans picked up right where they left off to open the second set. York took an early 5-3 lead and pushed it to an 8-3 lead following a kill and an ace. Alvernia called a timeout and picked up back-to-back points with a kill from Wolf and a block by Wolf and Allie Evangelista. After giving one back to the Spartan to make it a 9-6 set, Alvernia ratted off six straight points to take the 11-9 lead. Marli Emrich put down three aces during the 6-0 run as the Spartans took a timeout with Alvernia leading 11-9.
  • York bounced back out of the timeout and evened the set at 11-11, and it was back and forth from there. The set was tied 12 times after 11-11, including ties at 24-24 and at 25-25. Alvernia then took the advantage, 26-25, on a kill by Wolf. Wolf then sealed the set, 27-25, on another kill from Wolf to even the match at 1-1.
  • After an early 3-3 tie to open the third set, York took the lead, 4-3, on a kill and held the lead from there. The Spartans pushed their lead to as much as nine, 19-10, before Alvernia closed in a bit towards the end of the set. The Golden Wolves got within five, 20-15, on an attack error by the Spartans. But, York pulled away and led 24-17 following an ace. Alvernia held off set point three times, but the Spartans were able to close out the set, 25-20, on a kill to take the 2-1 match lead.
  • The Spartans took the first point of the fourth set, and led the set wire-to-wire. York pushed its lead 9-5 early and 18-10 later in the set. Alvernia threatened York's lead with a 9-2 run to get within one, 20-19, but the Spartans pulled back away with four of the next five points to take a 24-20 lead. Alvernia held off match point with a Wolf kill, but York was able to seal the set, 25-21, and match, 3-1, with a kill of its own.
