Golden Wolves Fall to #22 Spartans in OT, 2-1

York, Pa. (October 18, 2025) - Alvernia University (6-9, 1-2) fell to #22 York College (9-5, 3-0), 2-1, in overtime Saturday in a MAC Commonwealth field hockey clash at York's Kinsley Field.

After a scoreless first half York struck first with a goal in the third quarter but Alvernia's Kelsy McClintock netted the equalizer just over a minute into the fourth quarter to level it at one. Neither team could find the back of the net in regulation as the game headed to overtime. The Spartans then prevailed after a ball from outside of the circle was deflected into the back of the goal to give the Spartans the 2-1 victory.

How it Happened
  • The Spartans recorded four shots in the first quarter to Alvernia's one but York only put one shot on goal which was saved by Alvernia's Zoe Caloviras
  • York then ramped up the offensive attack in the second quarter and rattled off eight shots at the Alvernia goal and sent three on target but the Alvernia defense and Caloviras held strong to send the game to the halftime break level at zero.
  • The Spartans grabbed the 1-0 lead in the final three minutes of the third quarter after Hannah Downs assisted Olivia Miller to give the Spartans a one goal lead after 45 minutes of action.
  • The Golden Wolves found the leveler a minute and two seconds into the fourth quarter after Kelsy McClintock netted an unassisted goal to tie the game at one.
  • York recorded seven shots in the fourth quarter but could not find the back of the net as the Golden Wolves and the Spartans headed to overtime locked at one.
  • The Spartans found the game winner just under three minutes into the extra period after a ball was fired in from outside of the circle and deflected into the back of the cage by Kelbie Linebaugh to give the Spartans the 2-1 victory.
