Reading, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2025) - A goal in the sixth minute proved to be enough as Hood College (9-2-2, 2-0-1) defeated Alvernia University (2-8-5, 0-2-1) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer action at Alvernia.

The Blazers got on the board early in the sixth minute as Zeth Zambrano tallied a goal off the assist of Terrell Funchess for the 1-0 lead.

Alvernia countered with a shot on goal from Connor Kraycik later in the sixth minute, but Hood's Adam Labows made the save to keep Alvernia off the board. Alvernia sent in two more shots on goal the remainder of the half, but could not convert. 

The Golden Wolves pressed in the 58th minute after an uneventful 13 minutes to open the second half. Alvernia sent in a trio of quick shots off the feet of Chase Malone and Kraycik. Malone had his attempt saved by the Hood defense. Kraycik then had his first put back attempt blocked, and had his ensuing second putback attempt also saved by the Hood defense.

Alvernia had two more looks on goal the rest of the way, but both were stopped as Hood took the 1-0 shutout win.

Evan Solley finished with six saves in net for Alvernia. Connor Kraycik finished with a team-high two shots on goal. 

The Golden Wolves honored its senior class of Austin Chambers, Eli Klinger, Connor Kraycik, Caleb Rahn, Nick Rothenberger, and Evan Solley prior to today's game.

Alvernia outshot the Blazers 12-11 overall. 

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday at Messiah University.
