#12 Messiah Blanks Alvernia, 4-0

Grantham, Pa. (Oct. 21, 2025) - #12 Messiah University (14-2, 4-0) scored two goals a half en route to a 4-0 win over Alvernia University (4-7-4, 0-3-1) on Tuesday night in MAC Commonwealth women's soccer action at Messiah.

The Falcons got on the board in the ninth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. Messiah's Tahlia Lloyd sent a pass through traffic, and Hannah Adair gathered the pass, spun, and immediately sent a shot inside the right post.

Alvernia held the Falcons at bay for the next nearly 20 minutes, allowing just one additional shot on goal after the early Falcon's goal until the 27th minute. Abby Rowley made a save late in the 27th minute to keep it at 1-0, and Olivia Swartz made a save on the goal line for Alvernia a minute later to keep it a one goal game.

The Falcons doubled up on their lead in the 34th minute. After an initial shot drew Rowley out on an attempt to clear it out of the box, the Falcons took advantage, grabbed the loose ball in the box, and Lydia Ring sent a chip shot up over Rowley and the Alvernia defense and into goal for the 2-0 lead. Alvernia did not allow another shot on goal the remainder of the half as Messiah took a 2-0 lead into the break.

The Falcons pressured with two early shots on goal to open the half, but Rowley made the pair of saves for the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia had its lone look of the night in the 50th minute as Reese Hamilton had a breakaway one-versus-four opportunity for Alvernia. Hamilton was able to get a shot off on goal around the quadruple pressure, but the Falcons made the save to keep Alvernia off the board.

Rowley continued to play a great game in goal for Alvernia, making another pair of back-to-back saves in the 53rd minute. After another Rowley save in the 55th minute, Swartz made her second stop of the night on the goal line for Alvernia in the 56th minute to keep it a 2-0 game.

The Messiah pressure broke through again in the 65th minute. After Rowley made an initial save off an absolute rocket of a shot by Mia Libby for the Falcons, Messiah's Adair crashed the net and cleaned up the ricochet with a putback goal from outside the near left post that she tucked into the far right post for the 3-0 lead.

Messiah then made it a 4-0 game four minutes later in the 69th minute. Messiah's Addi Martin had an initial look go off the post. But, Martin tracked her own shot and flicked the rebound into goal for the 4-0 lead.

Rowley made three more saves the rest of the way, and the Falcons had another three attempts blocked for the 4-0 final.

Rowley finished the night with a career-high 11 saves. It marks the most saves in a game by an Alvernia keeper this season.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday for an 11:00 AM game at Eastern.
