Golden Wolves Drop Two at John Jay Tri-Match

New York, NY. (Oct. 25, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Volleyball (7-14, 0-5) dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon in a tri-match hosted by John Jay College in New York City.

The Golden Wolves fell to the host Bloodhounds (16-3, 5-0) in straight sets to open the afternoon. Alvernia was then swept by St. Joseph's University Long Island (12-5, 5-2) in the second match of the day.

In the first match of the day, the Golden Wolves and Bloodhounds went to an extended set to open the match. Alvernia led 24-23 with set point in reach. But, the Bloodhounds scored two straight to even the set at 25-25. Alvernia then led 26-25 and 27-26, but could not close out the set. John Jay evened the set at 27-27 and then scored two more points to take the set, 29-27. John Jay then took the second set, 25-22. The Bloodhounds led 17-7 before Alvernia came storming back and got within one, 18-17. The Golden Wolves got within one twice more, but John Jay was able to pull away at the end for the 25-22 win to take the 2-0 match lead. John Jay then ran away with the third set, 25-9, to take the match, 3-0.

Hailey McDevitt led Alvernia in the first match with nine kills on 19 attacks. She also had eight assists, two blocks, and an ace.

In the second match of the day, St. Joseph's took the first two sets, 25-15. The Golden Eagles pulled away late in the first set after an early back-and forth. In the second set, the Golden Eagles led wire-to-wire in the 25-15 set win. St. Joseph's then secured the sweep with a 25-18 win in set three. Alvernia evened the match at 11-11 at the midpoint before St. Joseph's used a 9-2 run to pull away late for the 25-18 win and 3-0 sweep. 

Olivia Rohrbaugh led Alvernia in the second match with eight kills off of 27 attacks. Emma Remaley had seven kills off 19 attacks. Hailey McDevitt had 19 assists, and Caroline Buggy had 14 digs. 

Alvernia is back in action on Tuesday at Hood College.
