Golden Wolves Blanks Lions, 4-0

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2025) - Alvernia Field Hockey (7-11, 2-4) used a four-goal performance by Ava Michael to down Albright College (3-13, 0-6), 4-0, on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth field hockey action at Alvernia.

Ava Michael got the Golden Wolves on the board with a sweeping goal off the line just three minutes into the contest. That marked the only shot on goal by both sides in the first frame as the Golden Wolves took the 1-0 lead into the second quarter.

Michael then made it a 2-0 game nine minutes into the second quarter, scoring off the assist of Sofia Mollura to give the Golden Wolves a two goal lead.

The Lions pressured a bit with two shots off a corner attempt, but both shots were blocked as the Golden Wolves held onto the two goal lead. Alvernia then tacked on more goal in the 28th minute as Michael reached a hat-trick off the assist of Alessandra Stevens. The Golden Wolves took the 3-0 lead into the half.

Albright pushed the pace to open the second half with two shot attempts that were saved by Alvernia's Zoe Caloviras in the opening two minutes of the half. But, Alvernia switched the field and scored on Michael's fourth of the night to take the 4-0 lead five minutes into the third quarter. Michael's fourth goal was assisted by Matisyn Derkacs. Caloivras then made her third save of the quarter in the 42nd minute to keep the shutout going.

Alvernia threatened to add onto its lead in the fourth quarter as both Caroline Martin and Natalie Parent had looks that were saved by the Albright keeper. The Golden Wolves did not allow a shot by the Lions in the final 15 minutes as Alvernia secured the 4-0 win.

Michael led Alvernia with her four goal performance, and Mollura, Derkacs, and Stevens all had assists. Caloviras finished with three saves in goal for Alvernia.

With the win, Alvernia stays alive in the MAC Commonwealth postseason picture. Alvernia needs to win by at least two goals on Saturday at Hood, and also need a loss by Widener when the Pride take on Messiah.
