Alvernia Falls to Hood in Straight Sets

McDevitt Hits 100 Career Ace Milestone

Frederick, Md. (Oct. 28, 2025) - Alvernia University (7-15, 0-6) fell in straight sets to Hood College (6-18, 3-3) on Tuesday night in MAC Commonwealth Women's Volleyball action at Hood College.

The Blazers took the first set, 25-18, and made it a 2-0 match with a 25-21 second set decision. Hood then secured the sweep with a 25-14 win in set three.

The first set of the match was close early on, but the Blazers used a 6-0 run to double-up on Alvernia, 12-6. The Golden Wolves got back within five, 15-10, on a block by Angelina Salera and Olivia Rohrbaugh, and made it a four point match, 20-16, on a pair of Hood attack errors. But, the Blazers cleaned things up and rattled off four straight to take a 24-16 lead. Alvernia held off set point twice, but the Blazers secured the opening set win on a kill.

After an early 7-3 lead by Hood in the second set, Alvernia rattled off six straight points off the serve of McDevitt to take a 9-7 lead. McDevitt recorded two aces during the run, giving her her 100th career ace. Alvernia trailed by one, 18-17, later in the set, and the Blazers scored four straight to take a 22-17 lead. Alvernia got back within two, 23-21, on an ace by Allie Evangelista, but the Blazers took the final two points to take the set, 25-21.

Hood made quick work of the third and final set, jumping out to a 10-3 lead. After Alvernia got back within five, 11-6, Hood scored eight straight to take a 19-6 lead.The Blazers then cruised to the 25-14 set win, securing the 3-0 match win.

Allison Wolf led Alvernia with eight kills on 28 attacks. Hailey McDevitt finished with three aces, five kills, 20 attacks, and 11 assists. Caroline Buggy had a team-high 11 digs.

Alvernia is back in action on Thursday at Misericordia.
