Golden Wolves Fall to No. 24 Knights, 2-0

Geneseo, NY (Oct. 4, 2025) - Alvernia University (4-7) dropped a non-conference contest to #24 SUNY Geneseo (10-1), 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Geneseo.

The Knights opened the scoring with a successful penalty stroke in the second quarter. After a scoreless third quarter for both sides, Geneseo made it a 2-0 game early in the fourth quarter. The Knights then held off a last second effort by Alvernia to secure the 2-0 win.

How it Happened
  • After a scoreless opening quarter, Geneseo got on the board in the second quarter on a penalty stroke. Ella Greico stepped up and took the stroke for the Knights and fired it into the upper right corner of the goal to give the Knights the 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves had a series of penalty corner opportunities to open the second half. Ava Michael fired off a shot on the first corner, but the attempt was blocked. After not getting a shot off on the second straight attempt, Kelsey McClintock put a shot on goal on Alvernia's third attempt. But, the shot was saved as Alvernia was awarded a fourth consecutive corner. McClintock got off another shot that was saved as Alvernia was awarded a fifth corner. This time the Knights cleared it after successfully keeping Alvernia off the board. Alvernia was held without a shot on goal the rest of the quarter, and Zoe Caloviras made a save late in the quarter to keep the game at 1-0 going into the fourth.
  • Geneseo grabbed an insurance goal early in the fourth quarter as the Knights' Aubree Werner fired in a back-handed shot past Caloviras and inside the left post to make it a 2-0 game with 14 minutes to play.
  • Alvernia had a late opportunity with ten seconds left to play as Michael fired off a shot in an attempt to breakup the shutout bid. But, Geneseo's Bridget Schafer made the save to secure the 2-0 win as time expired.
